How to make backsplashes easy and affordable.
Want to give your kitchen a new look but don’t want to spend a ton of money and time? Why not do a backsplash? Think it’s too expensive and time consuming? Well keep on reading too see just how easy and inexpensive they can be and yet still make your kitchen look like the kitchen you’ve always wanted!
The first step to keeping a backsplash easy and simple is to plan ahead. You can limit the area in which you are going to cover and still make it look fantastic, you can easily limit the area to behind your stove or behind your sink and still make your kitchen look like a totally new room. If you keep it from going completely around your kitchen you won’t have to worry about cutting tile to fit under and around cabinets or taking off electrical outlets.
The next step is to pick out what tile you would like to use. There are several kinds too choose from. You can use Metal Tile, Glass Tile, Porcelain or Ceramic Tile, all of which come in several colors, sizes and textures. Glass and Metal tile have become very popular and they are the go too tile for most kitchen remodels today. Make sure you pick a tile that will match not only the colors in your kitchen but also the size, if you get tiles that are too small that’ll just make the area look busy and cramped, get tiles that are too big and that’ll make your kitchen look really small.
The 3rdstep is to do your prep work. Find out exactly what supplies you will need: Sponge to clean tiles, small wet saw, spacers and the correct thinset and grout to mention a few items. We recommend going darker on your grout, grout tends to fade over time and easily absorbs stains. Draw out what you want your future back splash too look like. You can easily draw it out on paper, so that you can visualize your project.. ? Clean the wall thoroughly so you will have a good bond with your thinset or adhesive, be sure and allow time for the wall to dry before you start setting tile.
The average backsplash usually costs around $100 and takes about a weekend to do. Once you have all your tiles set and grouted just add the finishing touches and viola! You have a new Kitchen!
